UNION, NJ – Union firefighters and police responded to a fiery single-vehicle crash Sunday morning on Route 22 east, just before the Parkway North entrance.

According to a fire department official, the vehicle appeared to have left the roadway and struck a large sign at about 7:30 a.m.  The collision caused the vehicle to catch fire.  The driver was able to remove himself from the vehicle prior to arrival by emergency responders.  The driver was transported to University Hospital.  His condition is unknown at this time.
