UNION, NJ – Union police continue to investigate a motor vehicle accident that took place Wednesday morning on Route 22 West.

Police say the accident occurred at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the area of 2135 Route 22 West.  Ekinadose Lebarty 24 of Irvington, was driving a 2011 Nissan Versa in the left-hand lane of Route 22 West.  According to police, as Lebarty approached the area of Union Volkswagon, she struck Marat Kurbanov 35 of Newark, who was riding his bicycle.

Kurbanov was attempting to cross Route 22 West on his bicycle from the Volkswagon dealership towards Work N Gear which is in the center median, police say.  Lebarty remained at the scene and called 911. Kurbanov was transported to University Hospital and remains there with non-life threatening injuries.

The accident is being investigated by Officer Michael Cocca of the Union Police Department. Any person that may have witnessed the crash or its immediate aftermath is asked to call the Union Police Department Traffic Bureau at (908) 851-5070.
