UNION, NJ – Union detectives have arrested a man caught in the act of vandalizing a business in Vauxhall. The man is suspected in at least five other recent window-breaking incidents.
Union police say they recognized a pattern of vandalism to large display windows at the Millburn Mall at 2933 Vauxhall Road. In response, members of Union’s Street Crimes Unit began an overnight surveillance in the area. On July 2 at about 12:50 a.m., police observed a man emerge from the shadows and throw a large rock through the front window of the Bottle Crown Liquor Store. The man was captured by police after a short foot pursuit and was identified as Daniel Abrahamian, 37, with addresses in Livingston and Whippany.
There have been five other damaged windows incidents in the area recently, police say. According to exterior cameras from some of the stores, the suspect was dressed all in black. Abrahamian does resemble the suspect in the videos, police say, and was dressed in black when arrested. Detectives are following up the arrest and are looking to gather evidence to determine if Abrahamian is the person who broke the other windows. Union detectives are also conferring with Millburn police because they have experienced similar crimes near the border.
