UNION, NJ – First Baptist Church of Vauxhall presented a donation on Sunday, February 23, to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through a recent fundraising project.
First Baptist Trustee Donnie Days coordinated the donation drive with St. Jude. “As Trustees, we find a worthwhile project each year,” said Days. “Last year, we researched St. Jude, found out about their organization, how donations were distributed, and who was helped. We were very impressed. We brought the idea back to our board and, for the second year in a row, they agreed that fundraising for St. Jude was a worthwhile endeavor.”
“We try to live by the scriptures and be a servant,” added Days. “That’s what we try to do: Be of service.” During the Sunday service, a check for $8,345 was presented to Candace Carlisle, a representative of St. Jude.
Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food, “because all a family should worry about is helping their child live”.
“We believe there is a correlation between Christian discipleship and social stewardship,” said First Baptist Church Pastor, Dr. Marion J. Franklin, Jr. “We believe Christianity needs to be applied. Compassion and action go together. Ministries involve empathy, as a result, you will be responsive.”
“What better way to help a child who is fighting cancer than to help their family, so they can concentrate on the child’s battle,” added Days.
