UNION, NJ - Please-Stay-Home-And-Social Distance-So-We-Can-Save-Lives-And-Play. That’s the message from Union Soccer Club’s Galaxy 2012 Boys Travel Team members in a recent Zoom message.
"I miss seeing my friends,” said team member Nicholas. “We have so much fun together. I also miss practice because I love to scrimmage. We all love playing together every week."
“We miss working with the community,” said Joel Lescano, Director of Coaching at Union Soccer. “We hope everyone continues to practice social distancing, so we can once again see our kids play this beautiful game.”
“As a parent, having my son unable to see his friends and go to soccer practices and games is heartbreaking,” said Tracey Alves. “Prior to this pandemic, my son would count down the days to practice, or count down the days to the weekend when he knew he would have games for travel.”
Alves said her son and other team members, seven and eight year olds, continue to practice at home, in the house, wherever they can juggle or shoot a ball. She said Team Galaxy completed their Social Distancing Project during their school’s spring break. She added the team has had ZOOM video conferences, as well as multiple FaceTime calls. “They miss each other immensely,” said Alves.
“I’m sure I speak for the entire team when I say we cannot wait for normalcy again,” said Alves, “and look forward to watching our sons smile and run around the field playing the game of soccer, which they adore.”
