SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Union Catholic and Westfield staged another epic battle on Wednesday night in Scotch Plains, and just like the last time these two state volleyball powers collided the Vikings prevailed in a dramatic three-set thriller to clinch a fifth straight Conference Championship.

After UC, the No.  2 ranked team in the state, rolled to a 25-11 victory in the opening set, No. 19 ranked Westfield evened things up by taking the second set, 25-17. In the tense final set, UC and Westfield were tied at 22-22 before the Vikings went on 3-1 run to close out a 25-23 victory. Junior Aliyah Thomas came up with a the match-clinching point when she placed a floater that no one from Westfield could get to.

These two teams also had a great battle last month when UC came out on top, 25-23, 25-27, 25-22.
