PLAINFIELD, NJ — The circumstances behind the death of a Plainfield man in Green Brook Park on Wednesday remain under investigation, acting Union County Prosecutor Michael A. Monahan and Union County Police Chief Chris Debbie jointly announced Thursday.

Wykil Sherrod Jr., 20, of Oxford Place in Plainfield, died from a gunshot wound, the Office of the Medical Examiner determined. The manner of death remains undetermined pending continued investigation, according to the prosecutor's office.

Members of the Union County Homicide Task Force, Union County Police Departmen and Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit responded to Green Brook Park early Wednesday afternoon and found the body of Sherrod near a picnic table, according to the prosecutor's office, and shortly thereafter he was pronounced dead at the scene.
