UNION, NJ – Union High School senior Kai Legband has been selected January’s Male Athlete of the Month, sponsored by Service Professionals.
Legband is on the boys swim team and is the Union County Champion in 50m and 100m Freestyle.
What’s your favorite part of being a high school athlete?.
The acknowledgement, recognition, and respect I receive from everyone and as a result encourages me to push myself beyond limits daily.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
Russell Westbrook because he is very charismatic and passionate about his craft.
What are the most important attributes of being a leader?
You must be honest, motivated, focused, and always have a plan.
What is your greatest high school accomplishment so far?
Achieving a score of 1300 on the SAT’s
Do you play any other sports? What’s your favorite?
Not currently. For now my main focus is swimming.
What’s your favorite subject? Why?
Sociology because it is a more theoretical class and allows me to think freely and outside of the box.
If you could spend the day with anyone in the world alive or dead, who would it be?
If I could spend the day with anyone, I would have to say my grandfather who lived in Bermuda. Because of the distance and schedules I did not get there as often as I would've liked.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
What was the most difficult thing for you to overcome as a student-athlete?
Having the motivation to complete a school day after a 5 A.M. practice.
What would your words of wisdom be to future UHS athletes?
In the end, skipping that one practice will not be worth it.
Who inspires you?
I am my biggest inspiration.
What are your plans after high school?
I plan to swim in college and represent Bermuda in the Youth Olympics this year and the Olympics in 2020.
