CEDAR GROVE, NJ - One Cedar Grove tennis player has helped her team make it to the state championships with her talent, determination and leadership skills. Not only is she an asset to the team, but she is a great player overall and that is why Zion Oh is this week’s Cedar Grove Athlete of the Week sponsored by Shelby Mobley Allstate Insurance.

“I feel happy and honored to be named athlete of the week,” Oh said.

Oh is a senior at Cedar Grove High School and has been playing tennis since her freshman year. Over the past four years, Oh has grown tremendously as a player and has watched her team grow as well since last season.

“I feel that my teammates and I are getting closer to our goal from last year, which was to improve more in skill, communications, and more,” Oh said. “And this is still a goal to master and a challenge for us this season.”

The season has been going well so far for the Panthers, Oh said. The Panthers have played 11 games this season and won six of them. Even more impressive, the ladies made it to the state championships and won their first round Oct. 5.

Oh hopes to continue to win and go as far as they can in the competition.

“So far, the highlight of the season was finding out that we made sectional championships,” Oh said. “And with this, my goal for the season is to go as far as we can in the championships.”

That goal might be possible with a player like Oh on the team, according to Coach Andrea Watson.

“Zion is a steadfast, hardworking team player,” Watson said. “She is always ready to practice, play and support the team.”

Regardless of the outcome, Oh looks forward to continue playing the sport that she loves.

“I love everything about tennis. I love the sound you get from hitting the ball just right, as well as the enjoyment I get from it whenever I play,” Oh said. “But most of all, I love that tennis is a sport that requires integrity and sportsmanship, focus and well-knit teamwork, especially in doubles. It's a sport that I can really get engrossed in and enjoy, whether it's casual and recreational or competitive.”

Reader More Offended by Comments Against President, than Cheeky Cow Logo

December 11, 2017

Compared to a cartoonish image of a cow with a big butt‎, I'm much more offended by Ms. Tingle's baseless smear of the President of the United States as a "sexual predator." I assume because she didn't name him and he's a public figure, it's OK to publish what otherwise would be considered libel.

Ironically, although what Ms. Tingle wrote is likely ...
