Barnegat Light Beach Patrol is Hosting Ninth Annual Barnegat Light Ocean Mile Swim on Saturday


BARNEGAT LIGHT - The Barnegat Light Beach Patrol is hosting the Ninth Annual Barnegat Light Ocean Mile Swim this Saturday, July 29, 2017.  Start time is 6:30 p.m.  

Online pre-registration:  $25 (no extra fees) cut off is 12:00 PM on Thursday, July 27, 2017.

Race day registration:  $30   No mail-in entries are accepted.  

The fee includes entry to the mile swim, commemorative t-shirt and refreshments following the race.  Please bring your own fillable water bottle.  We are using a water filling station to eliminate waste.

Race day registration and check-in for all swimmers is on 16th Street beach 12:00-6:00 p.m. Chip timing is provided by

Two heats will be created at race day check-in pending the number of entrants.  Heat designation is based on your estimated ocean mile finish time.  Wetsuits are permissible and recommended in colder water conditions.

The starting line is a 30th Street  and the finish line is at 16th street. One ocean swimming mile which will be marked with highly visible buoys.  

The course will be contingent on ocean current.  Starting and finishing points to be determined on race day.  Swimmers only will be transported from registration to starting line by beach truck.

Individual Awards:  Plaques to first three overall male and female finishers. Medals for the top three male and female finishers in each age group: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 & over.

Team Award:  Combined place results of top 4 swimmers for a team organization will determine overall team champion. Team organizations include but are not limited to the following:  beach patrol, swim club, masters swim club, high school team or college team.

BLBP reserves the right to postpone or cancel the race due to conditions.  BLBP reserves the right to remove swimmers from the course due to unsafe conditions, excess duration of the race, or if the participant is believed to be at risk.

Please plan your travel for expected heavy traffic. Saturday afternoons are when a majority of vacation rental changeovers take place. Race day registration and pre-registered check-in will end promptly at 6:00 PM to ensure scheduled start time.
