VERONA, NJ – The Hillbillies finish the regular season second in their conference posting a 14-9 record after being edged out by West Orange Friday.
The Hillbillies scored their runs in three separate innings of the game starting in the top of the second. Jake Milmoe, David Motley, and Kyle McCaffrey drew three walks in a row to load the bases. A walk by Jacobsen with two outs brought Milmoe home to make it 1-0 Verona.

Moving to the top of the fifth, Nick Kozachuk was able to draw a walk and followed it up by stealing two consecutive bases to leadoff the inning. Anthony Zamloot hit a sacrifice fly ball into the outfield bringing Kozachuk home tying the game 3-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth.
West Orange took charge after that scoring six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on their way to a 12-3 victory.
Head Coach Joe Phelan told his team not to worry too much about the loss with the playoffs starting Monday.
“The next game is the state game so we had a lot of guys resting today, and we had our annual rivalry game last night against Cedar Grove. We wanted other guys to get at-bats that haven’t had a lot over the last two weeks,” said Phelan. “We’re going to go pretty live at our practice on Sunday, so we don’t come into the game on Monday feeling rusty.”
The Hillbillies are the two seed in the North Two Group Two State Tournament and will host Ridgefield Park on May 20.
