IRVINGTON, NJ - A strong third period from the Irvington Blue Knights proved to be too much for the Verona Hillbillies boys basketball team to overcome, as they fell 54-49.
Verona kept pace with Irvington, trailing 25-22 at the end of the first half. However, a 20-13 scoring run by the Blue Knights in the third quarter essentially decided the game. Verona battled back, outscoring Irvington 14-9 in the fourth quarter, but could not close the gap.
Joey Zecchino led for Verona with 13 points. Joe Fresco and Jeremy Boub scored 12 and 10 points respectively for the Hillbillies. Kymani Dunbar led for Irvington with 13 points.
Verona falls to 4-8 for the season. They travel to Bloomfield Tech on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
