WEST ORANGE, NJ - The Verona-Glen Ridge Ice Hockey Team got back on track after two losses and won its first game of the new year, defeating Cranford, 5-2, at Codey Arena on Saturday.
Verona-Glen Ridge took an early lead when Vincent Eremita scored early in the first period. Less than a minute later, Will Benson made it 2-0 VGR with some help from Jeff Egan. Zach Gold made it a 3-0 game when he found the back of the net with just over seven minutes left the period.
VGR's dominance continued in the second period when Rowan Brennan took advantage of a power play, assisted by Gold and Benson. Cranford finally got on the board with just 11 seconds left in the second period with a short-handed goal from Matteo Wilde.
Verona-Glen Ridge answered with a power-play goal from Dominick Pandiscia, assisted by Alec Vecchione and Gold, right at the start of the third period. Cranford scored one last time, but it was not enough to overtake VGR.
Verona-Glen Ridge improves to 6-4 for the season. They take on Nutley on Sunday at 5 p.m. and Oratory Prep on Friday at 9 p.m.
