Boys Soccer: A Good Season Comes to a Close as Jonathan Dayton Loses in the Semifinals

OAKLAND, NJ – In a hard fought match, the Jonathan Dayton Bulldogs lost to the Verona Hillbillies 1-0 in the semifinal game of the 2016 NJSIAA Group 1 Championship.   For the Bulldogs, the game marked the end of a very good season that saw them advance much further in the playoffs than in recent years. 

The only goal was scored in the first half by Thiago Queiroz.  It was one of nine shots on goal by Verona.  Jonathan Dayton made twelve shots on goal.  The Bulldogs goalie Jared Horowitz made two saves.   

The Bulldogs end the year at 16-8-1.  Anthony Nagy led the team in scoring with 27.  The next two top producers were Derrick Lobo and Jose Mejia who each scored ten goals.  The Bulldogs goalie Jared Horowitz made 109 saves during the season. 

So far in the tournaments, Verona has allowed only one goal.  They will face Haddon Township in the final game Sunday at Kean University at 10 a.m.  The Haddon Township Hawks made it to the finals by beating the Asbury Park Admirals 5-0.
