Cedar Grove and Montclair First Responders Rush to Rescue Man Under Fallen Oil Tank

MONTCLAIR, NJ - Sometime around 1:30pm on Saturday witnesses reported to police a man who had been trapped in a trench and under a tank at 26 Linden Ave. 

According to published reports, Montclair Fire Department officials arrived to find a male in a trench filled with dirt and under the tank up to his chest.

Deputy Chief Duncan confirmed the incident to TAPinto Montclair, after we broke the story. He stated that "...on Saturday 12/3 at 1:25pm, the Montclair Fire Department received a report of a man trapped in a trench on Linden Avenue."

A trench trailer was requested to the scene. 

Over an hour and a half later, the victim was extricated and in care of EMS.

UPDATE:

Duncan stated that the victim "...was attempting to cut an underground oil tank so that it could be removed.  The soil around him collapsed, covering him up to his chest, and pinning him to the oil tank."

"The Montclair Fire Department along with the Cedar Grove Fire Department were able to remove the man in a little over an hour. He was transported to University Hospital sustaining minor injuries," added Duncan.
