CEDAR GROVE, NJ - Cedar Grove High School Boys and Girls Lacrosse teams have joined together with the Cedar Grove Lacrosse Club to raise money for a former teammate who is battling cancer.

As the CGHS teams embarked on their first varsity season, they wanted to give back to the community. Initially the high school lacrosse program teamed up with the HEADstrong Foundation, which works to improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their families by providing essential services. However, upon learning that a former teammate was fighting his own battle with cancer, CGHS Lacrosse wanted to focus their efforts a little closer to home and the HEADstrong Foundation was happy to help.

Anthony Englehardt, 16, is a sophomore at Passaic Valley High School and a member of the Hornets Lacrosse team. He was also member of Cedar Grove Lacrosse Club’s youth program and played with many of the current CGHS lacrosse players. Anthony was recently diagnosed with advanced stage IV-B Hodgkin’s Lymphona and is being treated at Hackensack UMC Tomorrow’s Children’s Cancer Institute.

To benefit both Anthony and the HEADstrong Foundation, CGHS Lacrosse will host a Day of Lacrosse on Saturday, April 22 at Panther Park beginning at 9:30 a.m. Games will kick off at 10 a.m. when the 8th Grade Boys team takes on Waldwick. The CGHS Girls Varsity team will take on Wayne Hills at noon and the Boys Varsity Team will battle Columbia at 2 p.m. Included in the festivities will be music, face painting, door prize giveaways, 50/50 raffles and a full concession stand.

All monies raised will go to Anthony Englehardt. In addition, the CGHS players have established a HEADstrong Team Page where they will collect donations throughout the season. Cedar Grove Youth Lacrosse program has dedicated their season to Anthony and is accepting donations via its website www.cedargrovelacrosse.org.
