CEDAR GROVE, NJ - The Memorial Middle School courtyard now boasts a Bird Garden thanks to Girl Scout Troop #20510.

Ellie Dye, Sofia LaForgia and Candace Lagattuta earned the Silver Award by completing the project which is the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette can earn.  Throughout the year-long project the girls researched birds that live in the area and created a "did you know" info box.  Based on their research, they planted bushes that the birds like in the MMS courtyard.  Cedar Grove Garden Center offered a generous discount to assist the girls in their efforts.

As a troop the girls bought the bird houses and bird seed and created the bird garden.  The mural was painted with the assistance of MMS art teacher Amanda Hatzikyriakou.

"The project involved a lot of work and dedication and we are really proud of them," said troop leader Christine Dye.  "They raised the money from the cookie sales over the last few years, as well as a small grant from the Girl Scouts."
