CEDAR GROVE, NJ - Girl Scout troop #20510 of Cedar Grove began collecting donations for Mary’s Place By the Sea, a facility that supports women with cancer, back in March. Thanks to the determination of the girls and the generosity of the Cedar Grove community, Ellie Dye, Sofia LaForgia and Candace Lagattuta, all seventh graders at Memorial Middle School, were able to deliver bags of supplies and more than $300 in donations to Mary's Place By the Sea at the end of April.
Mary’s Place supports women with cancer through integrative services which complement their medical treatment and support their healing: mind, body and soul. Their custom, 10-bedroom home is located just two blocks from the ocean in Ocean Grove, NJ.
Guests are invited to stay up to three days before, during and after treatment at no cost to them. The Girl Scouts chose Mary’s Place because several Cedar Grove residents have spent time there including one special parent at Memorial Middle School, Dawn Nesto.
The troop met with Nesto and she explained how beneficial the services at Mary’s Place were to her. Mary’s Place is run solely on donations and the generous help of volunteers.
