CEDAR GROVE, NJ - The Cedar Grove Board of Education approved the hiring of Louis “Lou” Aboyoun as the Head Varsity Boys’ Lacrosse Coach at Cedar Grove High School for the 2020 season at its meeting on Tuesday.
Aboyoun grew up in Wayne, NJ and attended DePaul Catholic where, during his Sophomore Year, he was a founding member of the lacrosse program. During his senior year he was selected as a 1st Team All State Midfielder tallying 76 points in a single season and was later named the Passaic County All Decade Division 1 Level.
Aboyoun attended Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY from 2005-2009 where he was recruited for football, but then became a walk on to the lacrosse team. He was a 4-year starter and was a member of the 2005 MAAC Championship Team and played in the NCAA Tournament against the 2005 National Champions Johns Hopkins University. He later became a 2-year captain and was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2008.
Not only does Aboyoun bring high energy-professional level experience, a passion for lacrosse and has been coaching lacrosse at a competitive level for more than 10 years, most recently as an assistant head coach at DePaul Catholic from 2017-2019, where he and his team were the 2017 Passaic County runners-up, but also brings the title of being the head coach of the 2021 Mad Dog National Team, which is currently ranked 3rd overall in the country.
Aboyoun is the second coach in CGHS boys’ lacrosse program which is entering its fourth varsity season. The team was previously coached by David Bucchino who announced his resignation in June.
The Panthers will open their season on March 28, on the road in Waldwick.
