June 19, 2017- June 25, 2017

On June 19, 2017 Officers responded to an Evergreen Road address for a report of a motor vehicle theft. The resident reported that his 2015 BMW 550 was stolen sometime during the early morning hours. The detective bureau was able to track the vehicle to a Newark street with the assistance of BMW. Detectives were able to locate, recover and return the vehicle to the owner. They also investigated numerous auto burglaries nearby this theft. It is believed that the same actors were involved and that they were looking for key fobs left in the vehicles.

On June 19, 2017 at 11:39 p.m., Ptl. Joseph Ligas stopped a vehicle after a random plate check revealed that the registration was suspended. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of three occupants for possession of marijuana. They were processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.

On June 20, 2017 at 8:36 a.m., Ptl. Jason Rivers investigated a shoplifting at the CVS located at 387 Pompton Avenue. The actor had fled prior to his arrival. Surveillance video of the actor and a vehicle description were obtained. The incident remains under investigation.

On June 20, 2017 at 2:30 p.m., Ptl. Joseph Ligas investigated a report of a theft of wheels and tires from an apartment complex garage. The area was canvassed and persons of interest were interviewed. The wheels, valued at $10,000, were later recovered by Verona police at an apartment complex in their town.

On June 21, 2017 at 9:14 p.m., Ptl. Joseph Johnson stopped a vehicle after smelling the odor of burnt marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle as it drove in front of him along the roadway. The operator, a 38 year old male out of Belleville, was subsequently arrested for possession of marijuana. He was processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.

On June 24, 2017 at 10:16 a.m., a Franklin Street resident reported a burglary to his vehicle. He left the vehicle unlocked in his driveway overnight. In the morning he discovered that someone had gone through the glove box.

On June 24, 2017 at 7:21 p.m., Ptl. Kyle Vergano stopped a vehicle for an observed violation. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the 26 year old operator out of Paterson for driving with a suspended license. He was processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.

On June 25, 2017 at 4:25 a.m., Ptl. Raymond Cassella stopped a vehicle for speeding on Pompton Avenue. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the 38 year old operator out of Jersey City for driving with a suspended license. He was processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.

On May 14, 2018 at 5:57 p.m., Ptl. Michael Passafiume stopped a vehicle without a front license plate and tinted windows. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the 36 year old male driver from Paterson for driving with a suspended license. He was processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
