CEDAR GROVE, NJ - Cedar Grove resident James McGuire earned the rank of Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout on April 20.
McGuire joined Cedar Grove Boy Scout Troop 65 when he was 12 years old and served in many leadership positions within his troop. He progressed through the ranks of Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, and Life ranks.
In order to earn the rank of Eagle Scout McGuire also had to plan, coordinate and complete a service project. For his project, he chose to build and install bat houses throughout properties owned by the Township of Cedar Grove. The bat houses are needed to help increase the dwindling bat populations due to disease. The houses can be found mounted on steel poles at Community Park, the Cedar Grove Library, Morgan’s Farm and adjacent to the Recycling Center.
McGuire is currently a junior at St. Peter’s Preparatory School in Jersey City where he is a member of the St. Peter’s Prep Crew Team and also plays the tuba for the school band.
McGuire would like to acknowledge the assistance from the following businesses and individuals who were instrumental in helping him complete his project with donations and technical support: Cedar Grove Elks, Major Hardware, Metric Plumbing, West Essex Building Supply, Cedar Grove Township Manager Thomas Tucci, Cedar Grove Mayor Joseph Chiusolo, BSA Troop 65, Pat Sullivan, and his neighbor Larry Wiesel.
