CEDAR GROVE,NJ – An alert resident thwarted a burglary attempt to a home on Devonshire Road South on Wednesday, according to Cedar Grove police.
At around 1 p.m. on Wednesday the resident was walking in the area of Bennett Avenue and saw an occupied newer model black Nissan Titan pickup truck parked in a remote location on Bennett Avenue, police reported. The resident thought this was suspicious and that the occupant was pretending to talk on a cell phone.
Police later determined that the truck’s occupant was the getaway driver and lookout for three suspects attempting a diversionary burglary on a Devonshire Road South residence. When the suspect in the truck realized that the resident was watching him he alerted the suspects in the residence attempting the burglary.
Police say the suspects fled the residence, entered the truck, and fled the area. Further investigation showed nothing was taken from the residence and the incident remains under investigation by detectives. Cedar Grove police said the resident’s alert attention to suspicious activity and quick action to contact the police prevented a burglary. They urge residents to always be suspicious of anyone requesting access to their homes and to not hesitate to contact the police if they believe something is suspicious.
