Cedar Grove Superintendent Addresses Safety Concerns After Florida School Shooting

Dear Members of the CG Learning Community,

In light of Wednesday's tragic school shooting in Parkland, Florida, I ask that you pause and reflect on the importance of maintaining high expectations for school security in the Cedar Grove School District.

It has been demonstrated all too often that school violence can occur anywhere, anytime. Your children are entrusted to us to be kept safe while learning, growing and, well, just being a kid, and I want you to know that our school system will continue to work closely with the Cedar Grove Police Department

, other law enforcement agencies and safety experts to help provide a safe and secure learning environment in our schools.

As a community, we should consider the following:

1. Keep our eyes and ears open for suspicious behavior; report anything out of the ordinary
to administration and/or law enforcement.
2. Continue to abide by School Visitor Protocol.
3. Remind your children to take security drills seriously.
4. Share feedback with school personnel to help us improve protocol and procedures.
5. Speak with your children about their role in keeping our schools safe.

We share a supportive community and I am confident that we will continue to work together to ensure the safety and security of our students each day. We will continue to work with the CGPD to employ a variety of security measures in our daily efforts, including security cameras and panic alarms accessible by the CG Police, monthly security drills to provide students and staff the opportunity to practice emergency protocol and the use of our Emergency Management Plan to help guide our response to a wide range of emergencies.

We are committed to protecting our students and staff and will continue to re-evaluate safety and security programs throughout the year to maintain a safe environment. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
