CEDAR GROVE, NJ - Cedar Grove police arrested a township woman for the theft of a handgun on Friday.
Detective Sergeant Andrew McPhail charged 26-year-old Joann Cousins of Cedar Grove with the theft of a Sterling .25 caliber handgun. The charge resulted from an unrelated narcotics investigation conducted in November by the Essex County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Bureau.
According to police, detectives had recovered a handgun during a narcotics arrest. The handgun had been reported stolen by a Cedar Grove resident in October. Detective Sergeant McPhail and Detective Michael Tower interviewed the subjects arrested by the Essex County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Bureau and determined that they had received the weapon from a female in Cedar Grove in exchange for narcotics. The female was identified as Cousins. Cousins was charged with a summons to appear in Superior Court.
