TRENTON, NJ-- Each year, the best youth wrestlers in the state gather in Trenton for the USA Wrestling NJ State Championships. The event is held at the CURE Insurance Arena where 12 mats are set up and the top 24 wrestlers from each weight bracket vie for the honor of being the top wrestler in the state.

There are eight qualifiers held throughout New Jersey and the top three wrestlers at each weight and age receive an invitation to Trenton. On March 10, Cedar Grove sent two of their own wrestlers as Nick Coletta (120 lbs Intermediate) and Sam Cilento Cao (95 lbs Junior) both competed in their respective brackets. Both wrestlers had placed first in the Essex County Championship Tournament held on Feb. 18 in Livingston.

When it came to testing their skills on a larger stage, neither disappointed. Coletta finished 5th overall in the state, ending the day with five wins and two losses as Cilento Cao finished 8th overall with two wins and three losses, both amazing accomplishments in a state widely recognized as being tops in the nation for its wrestling prowess. Cedar Grove Coach Dominic Tafuri joined his wrestlers in Trenton and helped guide them to their exciting season ending finish.

"I'm extremely proud of how hard these kids have worked. They were great representatives for the town and their team," said Tafuri.

The Cedar Grove Junior Wrestling Team finished the season 7-5, which was good enough for 6th place in Essex County.
