CEDAR GROVE, NJ - A vision turned to reality as Hollywood came to town exclusively for the senior citizens. The event was a Hollywood Night Dance hosted on April 2. Cedar Grove High School’s own peer leaders arranged the night about a month prior deciding on themes, decorations, music, and food, etc.

Every club member had a special role to fill and worked together in making the night special for the guests. Guests began rolling in at 5:30 PM welcomed by the Memorial Middle School peer leaders. Beforehand, the younger peer leaders placed painted rocks with kind messages on each table handcrafted by themselves.

The live music, played by the CGHS jazz band, along with the night’s host brought the audience to their feet dancing to the classic music of artists like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. As the night carried on, the senior citizens got more comfortable with some of the high school and middle school peer leaders as they carried numerous conversations about their lives and interests.

“It’s really nice being able to dance and talk to the elderly because seeing the smiles on their faces is something I like to see” said junior peer leader Ryan Toomey.

Towards the end of the event the club was very proud of the finished product and being able to watch everyone enjoy themselves.

“I just want to thank the people and the kids for being so wonderful and giving us a wonderful party,” one of the seniors said on the microphone following the conclusion of the night.
