WEST ORANGE, NJ – When Essex Ed, Turtle Back’s resident groundhog at the Essex County Turtle Back Zoo, made his annual weather forecast, he did not see his shadow on Groundhog Day, meaning that warmer spring weather will arrive earlier.

According to folklore, if it’s cloudy when the groundhog emerges from its burrow, winter-like weather will soon end. If it’s sunny and the groundhog sees its shadow, winter weather will continue for six more weeks.

In addition, Essex Ed predicted the New England Patriots would defeat the Philadelphia Eagles in this year's Super Bowl.
