MONTCLAIR, NJ - Montclair Bread Company hosted their annual 5K Doughnut Run on Saturday morning with proceeds going to benefit the Covenant House.

Hundreds of participants gathered to participate in the charity event and ran or walked to the finish line at Label and Forest Street.

Nearly a thousand runners of all ages registered for the 5k race had pre-registered, while others showed up on race day. Participants were treated to doughnuts at the post-race party, and there was a festive spirit of accomplishment in the air.

Many participants wore their favorite donut leggings or costumes to help get into the spirit of the occasion.

Many participants were excited about the race and used it as a culmination for accomplishing personal weigh loss goals. One such person was Hector Jimenez who ran his first 5k on Saturday.

He belongs to a workout group called the Max Challenge. As a culmination of his training and weight loss through the group, Jimenez won a thousand dollar check. He was awarded by the Max Challenge group after the race.

"I did a 10-week challenge and lost 39 pounds. This was the culmination of the 10-week challenge," said Jimenez. "During the 10-week challenge, they look at the candidate who has lost the most weight, built the most muscle, has attended all classes, and who has a positive attitude."

Jimenez said that he was chosen among 9 finalists to receive the prize. "I started weighing 279 pounds ten weeks ago, my goal by my birthday on January 20, would be 200 or 199. I want to break that 200 barrier."

I felt like a winner losing the 39 pounds already, and the thousand dollars is an extra bonus."

Prizes were given to each runner, a finisher's medal and doughnuts and the top 3 finishers in each age group received a commemorative MBCo Doughnut Run gift mug. Ronnybrook Hot Chocolate, Stumptown Coffee and MBCo's doughnuts were distributed after every mile on the course and at the finish line.

Finishers also received a long sleeve tech shirt, with prizes awarded for the top 3 men & women in each age group of the USATF Grand Prix Race.

This year's race is supported by the Junior League of Montclair-Newark.
