Downtown Westfield Kicks Off 2-Month Jazz Festival

WESTFIELD, NJ — Downtown Westfield kicked off its free Annual Sweet Sounds Downtown Jazz Festival Tuesday, July 4. Each Tuesday evening in July and August, from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m., music lovers can enjoy five live bands in spots on both the north and south side of the train station. (Rain dates Wednesdays.)

The family-friendly festival is sponsored by the Downtown Westfield Corporation.

Quimby Street was closed to traffic July 4 for a  special opening night celebration and it will be closed off again on the last night of the festival, Aug. 29, according to the DWC.

Bands each week can be heard at: Central Avenue in front of Banana Republic; the lawn in front of the North Avenue side of the train station; the plaza at the corner of East Broad and North Avenue; Elm Street in front of the Baptist Church; and in Foundation Park across the street from Gallery U Boutique at 439 South Ave. West (near the corner of South Ave West and Westfield Ave.). The North Avenue performers will be relocated to Quimby Street on Aug. 29.

In addition, the Westfield Ballroom (formerly the Fred Astaire Dance Studio) will showcase some of its students and professional dance moves during the July 11 and Aug. 29 jazz nights.

Next week’s performers will include Jim Cohen: Steel Guitar Jazz; Stringbean and the Stalkers; Radam Schwartz; Roxy Perry; and Swingadelic. Click here for the full 2017 performance schedule.

While enjoying the musical performances of Sweet Sounds Downtown, attendees are encouraged to enjoy dining at some of Westfield’s restaurants and shopping downtown
