ESSEX COUNTY AREA, NJ — Essex County Freeholder Leonard Luciano filed his petition signatures seeking reelection to his third term this week.

Luciano, a freeholder since 2011, represents Essex County District IV, which includes the three Caldwells, Livingston, West Orange, Essex Fells, Roseland, Fairfield, Cedar Grove, Verona and Millburn.

“During my tenure, Essex County Parks continue to blossom, our recreation and service programs for children, families, and seniors are flourishing, and our bond rating has been upgraded to Double A. In addition, we have completed many infrastructure road and bridge projects ensuring motorists safety throughout the county.”

Pictured above with Essex County Clerk Christopher Durkin, Luciano was sworn in to fill an unexpired term in August of 2011, elected to his first full term in November of 2011 and then re-elected in 2014.

According to his biography on the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders website:

Luciano was born in Livingston and currently resides in West Caldwell. He served as a Commissioner of the Essex County Utilities Authority from 2007-2011, overseeing solid waste removal and recycling throughout the county.

He is employed by the Newark Public Schools, where he currently serves as a Library Media Specialist working with elementary school students from grades prekindergarten to fourth grade to improve their information literacy skills. Freeholder Luciano was elected Vice President of the Newark Teachers Union Local 481 (AFT) AFL-CIO, where he makes decisions on behalf of the membership in areas such as contract negotiations, tenure reform, professional development and school curriculum.

Luciano has an extensive education, which includes his B.A. in Humanities from Montclair State University, his M.A. in Liberal Arts from Thomas Edison State College, attained his New Jersey teaching certification through Rutgers University, and his Ed.S. in Leadership & Administration from Seton Hall University.
