Essex County, NJ – The 2017 Essex County Free Summer Music Concert Series kicks off on July 28.  Upcoming concerts feature Nikki Torres, Gordon James, The Frank Piombo Quintet and Darlene Love

“Our Free Concert Series offers a diverse lineup of performers who will take center stage in venues throughout our historic Essex County Park System. Pack a blanket, enjoy the cool evening breeze and dance to the sounds of classical, rock and roll, jazz, big band, Latin and more,” Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo said.

This Gloria and Emilio Estefan Tribute band is led by vocalist Nikki Torres, accompanied by her 16-piece band which includes her husband Bill. Torres brings excitement and enthusiasm to Gloria Estefan’s extensive discography. With her beaming voice, Nikki Torres has earned background vocalist positions performing with artists from around the world. This group of talented musicians breathes life into the classic hits from one of the most famous husband and wife duos of all time. Gloria’s Miami Sound featuring Nikki Torres will perform as follows:

Gordon James

Gordon James is a New Jersey-based jazz trumpeter and flugelhorn player, and popular composer and performer. His style of play has been compared to that of Chet Baker, Miles Davis and Chuck Mangione. James has been featured in festivals across the state, including The Newark Jazz Festival, Asbury Park Jazz Fest and the Red Bank Jazz & Blues Festival. He rose to prominence in the mid-1990s with his first CD Candlelight Love. From there, James continued to work with top artists to release three more CDs. Gordon James will perform as follows:

Frank Piombo Quintet

Frank Piombo’s career as a guitarist, vocalist and songwriter is three decades long, and he has performed with live bands throughout the New York Metropolitan Area. Piombo is an accomplished journeyman musician whose own music finds him delving into smooth jazz, swing standards and funk. He has shared the stage with such great recording artists as The Duprees, The Mello Kings, Vito and the Salutations, and Vito and the Elegants. The Frank Piombo Quintet will perform as follows

Darlene Love

Darlene Love began her career singing in the church choir as a child. She later worked with renowned producer Phil Spector while performing in a girl group called the Blossoms. Her incredible vocal skills quickly led her to stand out among the group and she was sought after as a solo vocalist. In the 1950s and ‘60s she worked with legendary musicians such as Sam Cooke, Dionne Warwick, The Beach Boys, Elvis Presley and Tom Jones. Love has lent her vocal skill to numerous hits throughout the decades. In March 2011, Love’s lifelong work was honored when she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The original concert date was rained out. It has been rescheduled as follows:

The SummerMusic Concert Series is being sponsored by Rose Squared Productions, The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey and TD Bank. The series is also made possible, in part, by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State.
