WEST ORANGE, NJ — Will we have an early spring or six more weeks of winter?  Essex Ed, the resident groundhog at Turtle Back Zoo is ready to make his prediction on Thursday, Feb. 2.

The annual Groundhog Day ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. at the new education building at Turtle Back Zoo.  Attendance at the event is included with regular zoo admission, and will not only include Ed's weather forecast, but also his pick to win the Super Bowl.

“According to folklore, if it is cloudy when the groundhog emerges from its burrow, winter-like weather will soon end,” county officials stated. “If it is sunny and the groundhog sees its shadow, winter weather will continue for six more weeks.”

Turtle Back Zoo is located at 560 Northfield Ave., West Orange.
