VERONA/CEDAR GROVE, NJ - Torrential rain led to flash flooding in Verona and Cedar Grove on Saturday afternoon. Cedar Grove police issued a Nixle Alert asking all residents to remain at home.

The alert stated:  "All residents stay in homes due to severe flooding. Many area roads impassable. Emergency calls to Police only!  Roads impassable due to severe flooding. Stay in your homes and stay safe. Reserve calls to police for emergencies only."

The flash flooding led to the closure of parts of Pompton Avenue and Ridge Road in Cedar Grove.  The footbridge between the police station and Cedar Grove Library is covered with water and sources say the library is flooded.

One bystander reported waist-high water in front of The Grove on Pompton Avenue with one car completely submerged.  

Parts of Verona are also underwater with reports of flooding on Fairview, Lakeside, Morningside, Sunset and Grove Street and the surrounding areas.  

Social media reports also state that Willowbrook Mall is also flooded with cars submerged by the AMC Movie Theater.
