CEDAR GROVE, NJ - Patch McCarthy scored two touchdowns to help lead the Cedar Grove Panthers football team to a 34-12 victory over Newark Central at home on Friday.
Gerard Dente put the Panthers on the board early in the first quarter and Anthony Bilotta’s pass found Tyler Rummel in the endzone for two points. A field goal from Bilotta gave Cedar Grove an 11-0 lead to start the second quarter.
Newark Central answered with two touchdowns to take the lead at 12-11, but McCarthy delivered the first of his two touchdowns with just seconds left in the first half and a completed kick by Bilotta gave the Panthers a 18-12 advantage.
Thanks to a solid Panther defense, it was all Cedar Grove for the rest of the game. McCarthy and Peter Johnson ran the ball into the endzone for an additional 12 points and Bilotta nailed a fourth quarter field goal to seal the deal for Cedar Grove.
Dario Bryant threw for 159 yards with 12 completed passes and zero interceptions.
The Panthers improve to 2-0 for the season. They travel to Hanover Park on Friday at 7 p.m.
