BOONTON, NJ - Frank Riggio scored two touchdowns to help lead the Verona football team to a 33-21 victory over Boonton on the road Friday night.
Verona opened up the scoring with a 67 yard touchdown run by Nick Riggio. The extra point by Steven Luehs gave the Hillbillies a 7-0 lead to end the quarter. Boonton tied it up with just over 4:30 minutes left in the half. Verona jumped ahead again when Cael Zebrowski's 23-yard touchdown pass connected with Jake McConnachie, but Boonton answered with a second touchdown to end the half tied 14-14.
Frank Riggio scored the first of his two touchdowns midway through the third quarter which was quickly followed by a 53-yard touchdown pass from Zebrowski to Matt Frungillo to make it 27-14 Verona. Boonton came on strong in the fourth quarter closing the gap to 27-21, but the Hillbillies wouldn't be denied sealing the deal with Frank Riggio's second touchdown of the night.
The Hillbillies move to 2-0 for the season. They host Newark Collegiate on Friday at 7 p.m.
