CEDAR GROVE, NJ -- It was a day of firsts for Cedar Grove girls' lacrosse. First game of their first varsity season, making them the first team to compete on the new CGHS turf field and they earned the first victory in CGHS varsity lacrosse history as they defeated Boonton, 8-2, on Thursday.
The Panthers dominated from the start. Sophomore Bethany Peterson scored the historic first varsity goal for Cedar Grove and then followed it up with a second shortly after. Junior Loren Vitali and freshman Tracy Moreno tallied a goal and an assist each in the first half and freshman Taylor St. Laurent's goal put the Panthers up, 5-1, at the half.
Cedar Grove continued to dominate with Vitali, Moreno and St. Laurent all finding the back of the net again in the second half to give the Panthers their first win. Juniors Mikayla Hom and Haley Diess scooped up nine and seven ground balls respectively.
Cedar Grove will host St. Elizabeth's Academy on Saturday at 1 p.m.
