CEDAR GROVE, NJ - The Cedar Grove girls soccer team battled back from their first taste of adversity in the 2019 season with an impressive 3-1 victory over Science Park on Wednesday.

“We have good momentum going right now.  I was happy about how tough we played tonight,” said Head Coach Tom Moogan.

Both teams were knotted at one midway through the second half when the panthers turned the tide in their favor. Jaime Dente was able to connect on a penalty kick with 14:28 left in the game to give Cedar Grove the lead.

“I wasn’t sure how we were going to respond and then we get the second penalty,” said Moogan.

Cedar Grove wasn’t done yet as the attack still continued to mount in the final 15 minutes of the game. Jaime Dente connected for the third time on a left footed shot with 12:52 left in the game. Dente now has produced five goals in her last two games for Cedar Grove.

“[Dente] was huge for us tonight, getting the hat trick -- three goals you can’t ask for much more,” said Moogan.

For Cedar Grove this win marks the first victory of the season in which they’ve given up a goal. The resilience of the squad to battle against opposing momentum is surely helpful as the squad moves towards tournament play.

“This was a tough game and we battled through a lot of it so I was glad to see us stick with it for the full 80 minutes,” Moogan said.

The Panthers will improve to 4-1 on the season as they have now won two games in a row following their first defeat of the season. The squad will play another formidable opponent as they take on rival Verona on Saturday who have beat them the last two years.

“Verona will be a tough matchup so we have to rest a little tomorrow so we’ll have a lighter day, practice on Friday and Saturday we have them.  So we’ve played them before, we know they attack well and we just have to be ready to defend them,” said Moogan.
