BELMAR, NJ — Mayhem and merriment will prevail during Belmar’s second annual Pirate Walk on Sunday, June 10.

From noon to 3 p.m., the Main Street area will come alive with swashbuckling fun led by several regionally recognized groups that will drop their anchors and come ashore in this popular beachfront community.

The Valhallas Pirates, known for “plundering the eastern shores of the American colonies,” will engage the crowd with its lively re-enactments of sword fights and other amusing antics. The Pirates of the Pursuit will focus on “bringing the past back to life” by portraying the merchant privateer mariners of the Revolutionary War on both sides of the conflict — the British loyalists and the Continental rebels.

And the Sea Dogs will offer musical performances of traditional sea shanties and other whimsical songs of the sea for landlubbers and salty dogs alike.

Sponsored by the Belmar Business Partnership, the rain-or-shine event will also feature a treasure chest hunt for pirates under age 10 and a free gift auction for adults dressed as pirates and wenches.

In addition, the Belmar Historical Society will participate, and Dot Your Face of Belmar will bring plenty more children’s entertainment.

Event coordinator is Pat Tecza, chairperson of the BBP retail programs committee and owner of Nostalgic Nonsense Vintage Clothing at 903 Main Street. Her store and dozens of other Belmar businesses will be offering specials during the afternoon of pirate fun.

Free registration kicks off at noon at Pyanoe Plaza, Main Street and Ninth Avenue.

For more information, contact BBP, the nonprofit corporation that manages the borough’s Special Improvement District, at info@belmarbusinesspartnership.com or 732-894-9022.
