Hockey: Verona-Glen Ridge Earns Spot in McInnis Cup Finals

MONTCLAIR, NJ – Verona-Glen Ridge defeated top-seeded Montclair 3-2 in overtime in the semifinals of the McInnis Cup on Thursday at Clary Anderson Arena to earn its first trip to the finals.

Owen Gleeson found the back of the net twice for Verona, including at 8:23 into overtime to give his team the win.  Stephen Wenzl scored Verona’s other goal during a power play in the second period. 

 Remy Parker put Montclair on the board 12:58 minutes into the game.  Gleeson answered quickly for Verona ending the period 1-1.

Wenzl found the back of the net 9:56 into the second period, but Mike Gerne scored for Montclair with 1:45 left in the second period.

Both teams remained scoreless until Gleeson’s overtime goal to end the game.

Liam Blaney made 37 saves in the net for Verona, while Ondrej Smalec made 24 saves for Montclair.

Verona-Glen Ridge will take on defending champion Montclair Kimberly in the finals of the McInnis Cup on Saturday at 5:45 p.m. at Codey Arena in West Orange.
