WAYNE, NJ - Freshman Matt O'Donnell's overtime goal, lifted the Passaic Valley/Cedar Grove Hornets ice hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Old Tappan in the Big North Cup Playoffs at the Ice Vault in Wayne on Sunday.
Old Tappan struck first when Sean Murphy capitalized on a power play to give his team the lead. The Hornets answered with a goal from Alex LoPresti, assisted by Jack Prospero, with just over four minutes left in the period. A scoreless second and third period led to overtime, where Nick and Alex LoPresti found O'Donnell allowing him to clinch the win for PV/CG.
Goalie Noah Vazquez had 37 saves in the win. Jack Fitzgerald had 34 saves for Old Tappan.
The Hornets will take on Wayne Hills on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the Ice Vault.
