Ice Hockey: Verona/Glen Ridge Overpowers Oratory 9-1

WEST ORANGE, NJ - Steven Topping and Alec Vecchione each scored twice for Verona/Glen Ridge in their 9-1 victory over Oratory Prep at South Mountain Arena in West Orange on Sunday.

Verona/GR took charge from the start, with three goals in the first period.  Sean DeCandia found the back of the net first with help from Dylan Ruggiero.  Topping scored his first goal next with an assist from Doug Spardel and Jake Kuhn made it a 3-0 game with his goal assisted by Jarrod Keating and DeCandia.

Verona/GR struck again early in the second when Jarrod Keating scored with the help of Anton Martino and DeCandia.  Oratory's Jeffrey Jarvis found the back of the net at the end of the second and they entered the third at 4-1.

Verona/GR continued its dominance in the third putting an additional five goals on the board -- two from Vecchione on assists from Topping and Harrison Keating, one from Martino with help from Spardel and Chandler Otterbein, one from Andrew Gagliostro with help from the Keating brothers, and a second goal from Topping on an assist from Martino.  

The Hillbillies will host Montclair at South Mountain Arena in West Orange on Thursday at 4 p.m.

On May 4, 2018 at 2:58 p.m., Ptl. Raymond Cassella stopped a vehicle for not having an inspection decal and an obstructed windshield. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the 28 year old male operator from Paterson for driving with a suspended license and having a suspended registration. His vehicle was impounded and he was released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
