WEST ORANGE, NJ — Despite the police and sheriff departments declaring the building clear and allowing re-entry, the Jewish Community Center (JCC) MetroWest in West Orange was one of at least 17 JCCs nationwide to receive bomb threats on Tuesday, according to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA).

Some of these threats of violence were made with live calls, according to JTA, which also reported that additional threats were made to Jewish institutions across the country on Jan. 9 and Jan. 18. These forced evacuations similar to the one the JCC MetroWest experienced Tuesday morning.

"The West Orange PD was so great," said Carol Berman, Gaelen Center For The Arts. "They helped us evacuate our building safely in the snow and all were safe and secure just minutes after beginning the evacuation. By 1:30 p.m. we were all back to business."
