Joe Cicala for Cedar Grove Town Council

As a parent of two children in the Cedar Grove school system, I have followed closely the challenges faced and progress made by the Cedar Grove Board of Education. Joe Cicala served on that board for six years and was president for three years.  Joe has a very measured, collaborative approach to solving problems and that is the kind of leadership we need on the Cedar Grove Town Council.

On a board with five members with varying backgrounds and opinions, Joe was able to work together to affect positive change for our children.  This includes the hiring of new principals  at both elementary schools, the middle school, and the high school and two district curriculum supervisors; implementing a new curriculum that is more closely aligned with the state standards and has resulted in higher test scores; and the successful passage of two bond referenda which paid for new windows, roofs and doors in three of our schools, new bathrooms at the elementary schools, new fields and a new concession area at the high school and a brand new high school auditorium including a new sound system, lights and air conditioning.

During Joe’s current tenure on the town council, he has been instrumental in installing a crosswalk on Bowden Road where the West Essex Trail crosses it.  This safety measure is a benefit to anyone who walks, runs, or rides their bike on the trail.  In addition, he helped approve a monetary gift to the Cedar Grove High School wrestling team that allowed the team to purchase much needed new wrestling mats.  Most recently, Joe proposed a resolution that would protect and preserve the 40+ acres of open space adjacent to Ridge Road, across from the Newark Reservoir.

Joe has a proven track record of working with well with his fellow board members to bring about positive results.  He is a well-informed man of integrity whose desire to continue to serve our community is admirable.  As Cedar Grove continues to grow and face its own challenges, we need Joe's experience, expertise and sound judgement on our town council.

Please join me in voting for Joe Cicala for Cedar Grove Town Council on May 9!
