CEDAR GROVE, NJ — A 17-year-old male from Wayne was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose after a fight in Panther Park Friday night resulted in the slashing of a juvenile.

Officers responded to Panther Park Friday on a report of a fight involving a weapon. Arriving officers detained a group of juveniles attempting to flee the area. According to police, the officers determined that the group had met at Panther Park and that two of them were going to start a fight about a post that had been made on social media.

During the skirmish, one of the individuals brandished a knife and slashed another juvenile. The minor who was arrested was transported to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center, police said.
