Livingston UNICO to Reveal Brendan P. Tevlin Memorial Fund Total

Conor Gardner Honors Tevlin's Memory Credits: Trish Duffy

LIVINGSTON, NJ — After the initial event was rained out, The UNICO National Livingston Chapter hosted its first-annual Brendan P. Tevlin Memorial Fund Charity Golf Tournament at Cedar Hill Golf and Country Club, the proceeds of which will be presented to the Tevlin family on Nov. 11.

Through an all-day golf tournament, Livingston UNICO and nearly 200 local businesses, family, friends and neighbors celebrated Brendan’s life while raising funds for a project that will forever preserve his memory. On Wednesday at the Hanover Manor, members of Livingston UNICO will present the Tevlin family with a check that will help redevelop and renew the main athletic field at Seton Hall Preparatory School (SHP) in honor of the 19-year-old lacrosse alum who tragically lost his life in June of 2014.

“The golf outing was unbelievably successful,” said Livingston UNICO President Kevin Francione. “I couldn’t be more proud of how the event turned out and we are honored that [the Tevlins] let us honor their son. To me that’s what keeps his spirit alive.”

Livingston UNICO member Andrea Ubaldi, the October rain date turned out to be the most beautiful day of the fall to date. Livingston bagpiper Conor Gardner, a close friend of Brendan’s, saw the golfers off with the instrument that held a special place in Brendan’s heart.

“It was a magical day,” said Andrea Ubaldi. “Cedar Hill did an amazing job, they really bent over backward for us. It was just spectacular and we were so proud to be a part of it.”

A silent auction awarded 78 guests with raffle prizes from local businesses. According to Livingston UNICO President Kevin Francione, the Livingston business community was eager to contribute prizes to raffle off, including gift cards to restaurants, sunglasses, spa treatments and more.

Francione said he was overwhelmed with the amount of support the event received and the generosity of the Livingston PBA members, who he said were instrumental in soliciting sponsors.

“Everybody that signed up to play did so with a heavy heart,” said Ubaldi. “But I was standing over the 18th hole and everyone was having a ball—it was really nice to see.”

When a plethora of Brendan’s family members gather at the Hanover Manor on Wednesday for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, Livingston UNICO will reveal the grand total that was raised toward the Brendan P. Tevlin Memorial Fund.

Brendan’s parents previously mentioned that they were touched that UNICO wanted to do something of this stature in their son’s name. Francione and Ubaldi said they are thrilled with the outcome and anxious to present it to the family.

“Their heritage and their family beliefs kind of go with the UNICO motto: ‘Service Above Self,’” said Francione. “That’s exactly what Brendan represented.”
