VERONA, NJ - In the grand tradition of “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday,” charities have gotten into the game with “Giving Tuesday,” a day that encourages people to do good by giving to favorite charities. Many local organizations have encouraged residents to use Giving Tuesday as the impetus to break out their checkbooks or simply lend a hand.

One such group is the Alagille Syndrome Alliance (ALGSA). Verona Residents Michael and Catrina LaRosa created team “Mighty Micco” (named after their son who was born with a rare liver disease called Alagille Syndrome) in order to help raise money for the organization. “The ALGSA has been blessed by two anonymous donors who will match donations up to $7,500,” said Micheal, who also sits on the board of directors of the ALGSA. “That means if we raise $7,500, we actually raise $22,500! The money being raised will be going towards a research grant through the Alliance to a researcher/scientist that we will hand select based on their potential to achieve real groundbreaking results for our warriors and community. When people donate on Giving Tuesday, they are giving hope. That is all we have right now. And that’s fine, because with their donation we can try to do the impossible: to find a cure for our warrior.”

Verona Residents Brett D'Alessandro and Alexa Modero are also encouraging residents to give to their organization, “Backpacks for Life,” which provides support and supplies to homeless Veterans. In an email to supporters, they suggested making a donation in honor of a loved one, friend or veteran in their life. The organization will send a tribute email to that person in return. Supporters can also become members of the Veteran Impact Platoon (VIP), a recurring donor program that works on a monthly basis.
