CEDAR GROVE,NJ - Cedar Grove Police, Fire Department and Ambulance and Rescue Squad responded to a house fire at 38 Woodmere Road around 11 a.m. Thursday.    The fire was reported by the homeowner and originated in the basement of the residence. Responding police and fire units were met with heavy fire coming from the rear basement stairwell and side basement window. The fire was officially declared under control at 12:23 p.m.  

According to officials, no one was injured, but the house did sustain significant damage with part of the first floor collapsing.  PSE&G was called to the scene to cut the gas service to the home so that fire fighters could safely extinguish the blaze.  The fire appears to be accidental and the cause is undetermined.

Cedar Grove was assisted by the Verona, Montclair, Caldwell and North Caldwell Fire Departments.
