NUTLEY, NJ - Nutley first responders removed two cars and a driver from the Third River behind the CVS on Harrison St on Thursday afternoon.

According to people on the scene, a 79-year-old woman was at the drive thru at the CVS when her car accelerated into the fence separating the CVS parking lot from the apartment parking lot immediately behind CVS. Her car went through the fence, striking a yellow dumpster before hitting an unoccupied parked car in the apartment parking lot. The woman's car and the parked car both came to rest in the Third River.

Nutley police officers were the first on the scene. Three Nutley police officers entered the water to rescue the woman from her vehicle. After being pulled from the river, CPR was administered to the woman who was then transported to St. Joseph's Medical Center in Paterson. The police officers were treated for exposure on the scene. Air temperatures were just below freezing at the time of the accident.
