Partners for Health, the Montclair based non-profit that supports a network of organizations and empowers them to make local communities better places to live, is celebrating its 10-year anniversary by recognizing organizations and people who are making great contributions to health and well-being through its Community Impact Awards. The Foundation will select 10 awardees in 2018 and honor them by distributing $100,000 in total among 10 designated non-profit organizations.

A great example of the type of story that Partners for Health is looking to highlight through the Community Impact Awards comes from one of the Foundation’s Trustees, Dr. Tekeyah Sears. Dr. Sears started the “I AM” Project, an empowerment and mentorship program for young women from the ages of 13-19. The purpose and goal of the “I AM” Project is to empower, educate, and inspire young women of the community through the means of mentorship and sisterhood. The program kicked off with the “I AM Loved” Inaugural Brunch on February 24th at the YMCA Geyer Family Branch of Montclair, NJ. Dr. Sears says that the program “provides the foundation and tools for these young women to flourish into who they are called to be. The "I AM" Project provides a network and community of support that shows them that they are loved, worthy, bold, beautiful and creative.” This program is close to Dr. Sears' heart as she had a mentor through high school that helped shape her into the woman she is today.

We hope this example inspires you to tell us the story of someone who is making a positive impact in one of the Foundation’s service area communities! There’s still time to submit a nomination: the deadline is Friday, March 16th. Please visit http://partnersfdn.org/AWARDS/ for more information.
