PATERSON, N.J. - Paterson Mayor Joey Torres and three DPW supervisors Joseph Mania of Randolph, Imad Mowaswes of Clifton, and Timothy Hanlon of Woodland Park are being charged with official misconduct for allegedly using on-duty city workers to perform renovations on a warehouse leased by Torres' relatives.

This is part of an ongoing investigation by the attorney generals office into alleged abuses involving overtime pay by city employees.

These allegations first came to light as part of an I-Team investigation by NBC news which video taped city employees doing work at the mayor's daughters house, his brothers liquor store, and his wife's office. The FBI and DOJ later recovered record from city hall as part of their separate investigation.

A press conference was held in Totowa by the attorney general where the charges were announced. These charges stem from a particular work that was done in a warehouse that was leased by the relatives of the mayor.

Attorney general Christopher S. Porrino called the case "old school political corruption" and said that this behavior was out in the open and one could call it "brazen".

When asked if it was appropriate for tha mayor to continue in his post Porrino said "its not for me to say what he does or not but I can tell you that the law says if convicted he will have to vacate his seat".
